Flag Day

Dass die amerikanische Fahne in Amerika schon fast einen heiligen Status hat, ist für die meisten von Euch wahrscheinlich nichts Neues. Überall findet man sie- so oft sogar, dass Daisuke bei seinem ersten Ausflug dachte, es sei irgendein Nationalfeiertag! Nun habe ich aber vor kurzem dieses kuriose email von Cornell bekommen:

Flag Day is June 14. It's time to take a look at your flag to see if it needs to be replaced. I am collecting damaged, worn flags. Damaged/worn U.S. flags will be properly disposed of at a flag burning ceremony performed by the American Legion, later this month, date TBD. If you have damaged, worn U.S. flag(s) that you would like to be properly disposed of, please feel free to drop them off at my desk in the Admin Bldg, 4974, PGRU. Thanks

Da staunte ich nicht schlecht: Alte amerikanische Fahnen wirft man nicht einfach so weg, nein sie werden eingesammelt, um dann rituell & hoch offiziell verbrannt zu werden!!! Unglaublich!
